Skid Steer Training
Course Details
Under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Skid-Steer operators are required to be deemed as competent to operate these kinds of lifting equipment. To meet the definition of competency, operators need to have training, knowledge, and experience. This course provides the required knowledge and awareness step toward becoming a competent skid steer operator. Operators still require a separate hands-on evaluation on the actual machine and worksite.
This instructor-led course uses clear explanations, group activities, real-world scenarios, discussion prompts and knowledge checks to help participants understand skid steer safety responsibilities and operating hazards.
If the employer has the equipment on site at the time of the training, your trainer will conduct an “operator evaluation” and document their findings on the experience level of the operators.

Upon completion, students will be issued a certificate and wallet card showing proof of their training.

Practical Skills Evaluation
Certification of competency requires successful completion of both a written examination and a practical skills assessment. Upon completing the program, participants must pass a final exam with a minimum score of 75%. Up to three attempts are permitted. (this is for each course – not just elearning)
Candidates must then complete a practical evaluation within 90 days of passing the final exam. The fee for us to complete the practical assessment is $70+tax per person, per piece of equipment. You may also have your employer (or another qualified evaluator) complete this on your behalf. Participants must ensure:
- They have sufficient hands-on experience with each piece of equipment being assessed
- The equipment has current annual certification and inspection documentation
- The equipment is in safe working condition and properly maintained
Please Note
- We do not offer public, in-person practical evaluations at our facility. All practical assessments are conducted at your workplace or job site.
- We do not supply, rent, or provide lifting devices. Our services are limited to training and certification only.
Practical Skills Evaluation

Your practical evaluation is designed to confirm that participants can safely apply the skills learned during training. The following applies to practical evaluations:
- One practical evaluation per participant is included with the training.
- Practical evaluations are typically completed during the scheduled training session.
- If a practical evaluation can’t be completed during the scheduled session, a return visit can be arranged for $70 + HST per participant, plus applicable travel charges.
- Practical evaluations may also be completed by your employer or another qualified evaluator.
Before your practical evaluation, please ensure:
- Participants have received sufficient hands-on experience with the equipment.
- Equipment is safe, operational, and available for the evaluation.

- Practical evaluations are completed at your workplace or job site using your equipment. We do not offer public practical evaluations at our training facilities.
- We do not supply or rent equipment for practical evaluations.
