Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have a JHSC committee at my business?

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that at least two members of the committee (one representing the workers and one representing the management team) be certified. The size requirement of a JHSC depends on the number of employees: 20 – 49 employees requires you to have at least 2 JHSC members. 50+ employees requires you to have at least 4 JHSC members.

How long do I have before I need to take JHSC Part 2?

Attendees will have 1 year to complete Part 2 of their training. JHSC Part 2 is a 2-day program, which can also be delivered online or in-class.

Does my JHSC Certification expire?

Every 3 years, JHSC members with certification must attend a refresher training course to uphold their certified status.

What happens if I don't take Part 2 Training within a year of completing Part 1 Training?

Unfortunately, if you fail to finish your JHSC Part 2 training within twelve (12) months of completing JHSC Part 1, you will be required to re-take your JHSC Part 1 training.

What course materials are provided?

Participant manual and an Ontario Green Book (OHSA Regulations) will be mailed to each participant prior to the course start date.

What form of certification do I receive after the program?

After completing the JHSC Part 1, you’ll be provided with a Certificate of Accomplishment and a CPO approved Wallet Card. We will also take care of submitting the necessary paperwork to the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
