Supervisor Competency Training
Course Details
This Supervisor Competency course equips supervisors with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to meet their legal and practical responsibilities under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act. Through interactive discussions, real-world scenarios, and applied activities, participants learn how to recognize and control hazards, demonstrate due diligence, lead safe work practices, and effectively communicate with and coach workers. The program emphasizes the supervisor’s critical role in the Internal Responsibility System and shows how strong safety leadership supports both worker well-being and operational performance.

Learn how to support the IRS and demonstrate due diligence through practical, defensible supervisory actions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Identify the responsibilities of all workplace parties, apply them in daily operations, and lead safe work practices through effective communication and coaching.
Hazard Identification
Learn how to recognize workplace hazards and identify appropriate controls using proven safety principles.
Role of the JHSC
Understand the duties of the JHSC and how the supervisor can support them in their functions.
Workplace Inspections
Learn about a structured approach to conducting workplace inspections and the documentation process involved to support due diligence
Accident/Incident Investigations
Identify the purpose of an investigation, what to do if an incident occurs.
Integrating Safety with Operations
