Overview

As a Safety Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering essential safety training programs that equip participants with the skills they need in a supportive and engaging environment. You will assess the effectiveness of training, identify potential business opportunities, participate in mentorship programs, uphold fiscal responsibility, and maintain professionalism. Safety Trainers will be expected to effectively teach a minimum of 10 training programs, assigned based on past abilities and experience.

Success In the Role:

  • Achieve an average participant satisfaction score of 90% or higher in post-training evaluations.
  • Ensure 100% completion of all course preparation tasks (e.g., confirming details, reviewing materials, ensuring PPE availability) prior to each training session.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Safety Trainer, you will be accountable for all aspects of successfully delivering training courses, including but not limited to:

  • Preparation:
    • Develop and customize training programs based on client needs.
    • Confirm course details and review client policies and procedures before delivery.
    • Ensure all course materials, teaching aids, and PPE (for both yourself and participants) are available prior to the course.
    • Arrive early to ensure course setup is complete and you’re ready to begin on time.
    • In winter months, shovel/salt walkways at the IST office, if necessary, and use a snow blower to assist with snow clearing.
  • Delivery:
    • Conduct engaging safety training sessions, ensuring participant understanding and involvement.
    • Identify additional training needs, promote company services, and inform clients about other relevant training opportunities.
    • Ensure training facilities are cleaned after use, particularly at the IST office.
  • Administration:
    • Complete all testing and post-testing processing, as well as additional reports and paperwork promptly.
    • Respond to client inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
    • Inform Sales & Account Managers of new business opportunities.
    • Mentor and coach junior trainers.
  • OH&S Legislation:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Ontario’s Health & Safety legislation.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of high school education plus 2 years of specialized training.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated Regulations.
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering adult training.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret training materials and results.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Smartphone with a data plan for company business.

Preferred:

  • Additional certifications in safety training, such as Working at Heights, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), Forklift, and Confined Space Entry.
  • Background in occupational health and safety management or a related field is preferred.

Work Environment:

  • The role primarily involves delivering training, which may include presenting for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of objects may be required.
  • Exposure to a variety of environments, including client facilities, with potential outdoor work in different weather conditions.

Travel Requirements: Travel within the AREA, ON area is required, primarily to client sites for training sessions.
